Summer

Reborn in the kiln
of the southern summer sun

Conceived in this furnace
I embrace its blistering, cleansing breath

Waves of heat lapping my flesh
as if a tide of lava has poured
down from the sky to detoxify
skin and soil

Snowbirds seek shade and cooler climates
as the heat washes over and envelopes me
in its unyielding caress

Clear springs in a quiet wood
summon me to their waters
to provide succor to their
southern son

Back to the Kitchen

This makes me want to take off my clothes and jump in a river!

I love "unyielding caress!"
